9 classes
$200
This class will explore nontraditional writing approaches by creating short pieces in response to weekly exercises. No long pieces will be workshopped. This class will run like a poetry workshop– every class every writer will pass out work, read it aloud, and hear the class’s response. This format creates a spontaneous dynamic, and leads writers towards new styles. Besides poetry and fiction, pieces might take the form of playwriting, nonfiction, or other forms. Exciting writing is not necessarily experimental, but it benefits every writer to read and experiment with writing that breaks with convention. A good writing workshop is a forum for ideas in general and the best kind of collaboration. In addition to the workshop, the class will occasionally participate in in-class and out-of-class writing and reading assignments.
Rachel B. Glaser has taught fiction at Flying Object for the past three years, and has also taught at Elms College and Smith College. She is the author of Pee On Water, MOODS, and the forthcoming Paulina & Fran.
